Ged Haney: Milk Milk Lemonade

4th June 2013

Dear Fellow Drinkers and Animation Lovers,

Here is the write-up of our last event on Tuesday 4th June, which was an amazing evening in lots of ways. Not only did we have Ged Haney as our last-minute special guest but we had an audience of nearly forty-five people. Normally the audiences get smaller and smaller the further we go into summer, but this was one the third largest audience we have ever had! Clearly Ged is a massive draw.

In the first half Ged did a short talk about his controversial masterpiece Milk Milk Lemonade, by his admission one of the most unpopular animations ever made. Ever philosophical, Ged described the film’s creation and disappointing reception but when we showed the film a few minutes later, it got laughs throughout and three rounds of applause and nearly a standing ovation at the end.

You can see him introducing the film here:

(Thank you to Stuart Pound for doing the filming).

You can see Milk Milk Lemonade (2010) here:

Then Jon Baker, our man behind the London Animation Club screening at Hong Kong Contemporary 13 (24th – 27th May), offered a report on the experience:

You can see an assemblage of video clips which Jonathan filmed in Hong Kong here:

In the second half, we showed a selection of films which audience members had brought along:

PROGRAMME 2

1. Irn Bru online ad directed by Dennis Sisterson

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPCb9svdhfw

This is really sick, very funny and reminds me of the animated dream sequence in “How To Get Ahead In Advertising.”

2. Showreel by Darshan Raja Rayan

These clips included his two-second film which we showed at an earlier event. Sadly it is not available online yet, but you can see some of his drawings here: http://www.drayan.com

3. Blu by Una Marzorati

Una’s beautiful entry for the Vimeo weekend challenge.

4. Sequences by Una Marzorati

Una’s first move into more abstract territory.

5. All That Passed (Sideways) by Stuart Pound

6. Paper Signature by Stuart Pound

7. At The Beach With Monica Vitti by Stuart Pound

More experimental work from Stuart, our most prolific member. Sadly none of them are online yet!

7. Legend Of The Roc by Mo Rahman

An exquisite animation about a mythical bird creature, executed in paint on glass.

8. Studio Ghibli by Mo Rahman

An hilarious ident, but, sadly, not online.

9. Dog by Kate Jessop

Dog was commissioned by the Southbank Centre as part of the Festival of Neighbourhood and London Literature festival  and is an adaptation of the poem by Richard Scott. But it is not online yet.

So that was it, bar the drinking. Thank you to everyone who took part.

My write-up of our 2nd July event with Matthew Linsley and his sitcom It’s Grimm Up North will follow shortly.

Our next event will be on Tuesday 6th August (probably).

See you soon.

Love from Martin
